UKAA expands and appoints new Scotland and North West Chairs

The UKAA has appointed Chairs to champion and expand activities in the North West and in Scotland.

 

Dougie Orton Wade MIRPM (Asset Manager, Allsop Letting and Management) has been appointed as Chair of UKAA North West, supported by Deputy Chair, Peter Grimshaw (Sales Director, Regal Blinds).

 

Gillian McLees (Director of BTR, Rettie and Co) has been appointed as Chair of UKAA Scotland.

 

UKAA has been working on setting up groups across the country with a view to helping local Build to Rent (BTR) markets develop and grow, championed by Chair of the UKAA Membership, Events and Marketing Committee, Michael Howard of Urbanbubble.

 

Scotland and the North West have been the first to launch. Recently, 150 BTR professionals attended a successful event in Manchester exploring what other regions can learn from the experiences of BTR in the city and a delegation of Scottish professionals also attended a two-day Study Tour. There are plans for a series of similar events in 2022. The first UKAA event in Scotland will take place in Glasgow in February 2022.

 

Further expansion is planned in the Midlands with a launch planned for early 2022.

 

Steering groups are supporting the new Chairs and work is underway to leverage understanding of local markets, to build programs of activities that will:

 

  • Showcase what BTR has to offer to the community and economy
  • Map and understand local challenges and opportunities to the development and delivery of BTR
  • Propagate a wider network of support for BTR buyers and suppliers in regions covered with a program of events, training and socials
  • Gather market data and insights to promote understanding of best practice, customer and market trends.

Gillian McLees, Scotland Chair commented: ‘’ I am delighted to be appointed Chair of the Scotland UKAA. 2022 is set to be a pivotal year in the BTR sector in Scotland with the launch of landmark schemes to the public and long awaited buildings becoming operational. I am committed to the success of this sector and providing the rented homes that Scotland desperately needs. Working with the UKAA well help us work towards achieving excellence, innovation and success for our members, residents, clients and suppliers alike.”

 

Michael Howard, Chair of the UKAA Membership, Events and Marketing Committee commented: ‘’The BTR sector continues its upward trajectory, with every key city across the UK having communities planned, built or delivered; it was important the UKAA’s reach was truly national. It’s our ambition that the organisation (UKAA) will have strong regional forums in every area by the end of 2022, starting with the North West and Scotland.
